Takoyaki

This is a famous food from Osaka in Japan. When translated to English it means “burnt octopus”. It is a small pancake made from pieces of octopus tentacles. It is garnished with ginger and deep fried. It is served with a sauce and dried fish shavings and seaweed flakes.

Roasted Camel

Famous in the Arab world perhaps this is the most unusual dishes in the world. It consists of a whole camel, roasted and stuffed with a lamb. The lamb is roasted and stuffed with chickens. The chicken are stuffed with fish and the fish are stuffed with eggs. The gaps are filled with rice, nuts and garnishing.

Bats

Bats represent evil. But in Indonesia they are a delicacy. They are grilled or deep fried. Their brittle wings and bones make a crunchy sound when eaten. The other way of making a dish is to cut the body into cubes and make a stew with coconut milk and spices.

Buah keluak

It means the fruit which nauseates. It is the soft interior of the hard seed of the kepayang tree. It is used as a poison on spear tips in jungles to hunt. Once cooked it becomes a delicious curry. It is black in color.

Dragon Flies

Eaten in Bali, Indonesia, Dragon Flies are pounded in a mixture of coconut paste, fermented fish sauce and garlic, chilies. The seasoning is of tamarind juice, basil leaves, ginger, and the juice of a lime. This is then cooked to form a dish called “Pepes”.
